Yesterday saw the topping-out ceremony of a new building designed by Dutch architect Erick van Egeraat for the University of Leipzig in Germany.
Built on the site of a former church, the new building will consist of three elements. The “Aula with Vestry” will be used for church services, academic ceremonies, concerts and scientific conferences.

Architects LAVA have designed a hotel room as part of a research project in collaboration with Fraunhofer IAO (Institute for Work Organisation) in Stuttgart, Germany.

Lighting designer Bruce Munro has completed his Field of Light installation at the Eden Project in Cornwall, England.
The installation is situated on the grass roof of the visitors’ centre, and consists of 6,000 acrylic tubes capped with glass spheres and containing optical fibres.

Foreign Office Architects have unveiled their design for the redevelopment of Birmingham New Street station in Birmingham, UK.
The metal-clad station features digital information boards at the entrance and is designed to handle over 52 million passengers per year.
The ÂŁ600 million project, titled New Street New Start is due to be completed in 2014.

Dutch architects MVRDV and Danish co-architects ADEPT have won a competition to design the Rødovre Skyscraper in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The 116 metre tall tower will include apartments, a hotel, retail, offices, and a public park and plaza.
The stacked building consists of “pixels”, each 60 metres square, which are arranged around the central core of the building.
